Full of locals any night of the week, La Spiaggia has earned a reputation for its friendly service, fine food and wine however the popular local restaurant had experienced issues with excess noise levels.

The loss of repeat customers and subsequent impact on his business prompted the owner Maurizio Lombardo to look for a solution to the restaurant’s poor acoustic issues.

The noise reduction treatment involved installing ecoustic® Veneer perforated acoustic panels, which achieve an NRC (noise reduction coefficient) rating of 0.8, on one main feature and three smaller return walls in the noise prone area. The ecoustic® Veneer panels were easy to install and retrofitted over the existing timber panels during the day while the restaurant was closed.

Results from testing the space before and after the installation show ecoustic® Veneer considerably reduced noise levels and in particular patron noise levels lowered after the installation. This was attributed to diners not needing to speak louder to be heard hence keeping the noise levels lower.

“We are so pleased with ecoustic® Veneer in reducing noise in our restaurant. It works perfectly. Previously, customers would tell us they loved our food and service but could not tolerate the noise within the restaurant. We’ve even had customers request to be seated in the downstairs area as upstairs was too noisy. Now we can confidently seat a group of 50 people upstairs as the noise levels are considerably lower and our customers can hear each other,” says Lombardo.
